Kesen Ma is a microbiologist who has a research focus on physiology, metabolism, enzymology, bio-processing and biotechnological applications of hyperthermophiles, a group of microorganisms growing at temperatures near the boiling point. He is a faculty member supervising MSc and PhD students in the Department of Biology at the University of Waterloo, Canada. His recent work has revealed a two-enzyme pathway involving novel thermostable key enzymes for alcohol fermentation in both hyperthermophilic bacteria and archaea.
