    报告摘要（Abstract）：

    We examine how the idiosyncratic manner in which firms locate their portfolio of R&D units is associated with their ability to create and capture value from global technological innovation. Our analysis of 564 R&D units located in 47 countries shows that, surprisingly, locating R&D units in countries with weak intellectual property rights protection is positively associated with the value added from global technological innovation. By contrast, locating R&D units in countries with similar characteristics, and hence with limited potential for arbitraging cross-country differences in R&D related factors, is negatively associated with the value added from global technological innovation.
