  讲座题目: Generation of rhythmic activity in the pregnant uterus.
  讲座摘要:
  The generation of rhythmic contractions in the uterus shortly before delivery is a crucial aspect of birth. Surprisingly, the mechanism leading to contraction is not fully understood. Developing a better understanding of these scientific issues may provide help in devising treatment of prenatal birth, which is a leading cause in infant mortality. Scientifically, the question can be simply formulated: given that none of the isolated uterine cells, taken in isolation, is capable of oscillate, how can rhythmic activity be developed in a whole tissue ? The well-documented observation that intra-cellular coupling increases very significantly towards the end of pregnancy, provides a hint. Based on studies of mathematical models of uterine cells, I will present a plausible scenario leading from quiescent to spontaneously active tissue when the cellular coupling increases. This scenario involves interesting complex regimes of spatio-temporal activity through the tissue, which I will discuss.

  Alain Pumir教授是法国Lyon高师非线性科学研究中心主任,国际著名的非线性科学与生物物理学专家,在 Nature, Nature Physics 及物理学顶级学术 “物理评论快报”(PRL)等刊物上发表了一系列有广泛影响的论文,研究结果获得了国际同行的广泛关注(论文引用次数达3000以上),被邀请作国际会议学术报告40余次。是美国物理评论及非线性科学杂志的编委,获2008年度美国物理年会颁发的杰出审稿人奖。
  Nicolas Garnier 是法国Lyon高师非线性科学研究中心教授,国际著名的非线性科学与生物物理学专家。1997-2000在巴黎Denis Diderot大学获博士学位,2002获美国Georgia Tech 非线性科学Joseph Ford Fellow,目前主要研究非线性科学、非平衡统计物理及其在生物、神经科学与复杂网络方面的应用。在物理学顶级学术 “物理评论快报”(PRL)等刊物上发表了一系列有广泛影响的论文,研究结果获得了国际同行的广泛关注。
